EMDR-trained care

Gentle, structured support for teens and adults.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based approach that helps the brain reprocess upsetting memories so they feel less overwhelming. Sessions move at your pace, with clear structure and room to check in along the way.

For adults

Often used for trauma, anxiety, grief, and persistent stress patterns that talk therapy alone hasn't shifted.

For teens

A developmentally sensitive way to process difficult experiences without needing to retell every detail.

How EMDR works

A structured, 8-part rhythm.

EMDR follows a clear protocol so you always know what is happening and why. You are in control, and we pause whenever you need to.

History taking

We learn your story, strengths, and goals so treatment is tailored to you.

Preparation

You'll build grounding skills and safety resources before any memory processing begins.

Assessment

We identify a specific memory, belief, or feeling that still carries emotional charge today.

Desensitization

Guided eye movements, taps, or tones help your brain reprocess the target memory.

Installation

A stronger, healthier belief is strengthened and anchored in place of the old one.

Body scan

We notice and release any leftover physical tension connected to the memory.

Closure

Every session ends with grounding so you leave regulated and supported.

Reevaluation

We review progress, confirm the change has held, and plan the next step together.

EMDR FAQ

Questions people often ask.

Wondering whether EMDR is right for you or your teen? Here are quick, honest answers.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess upsetting memories and beliefs so they feel less intense and less controlling in daily life.

How is EMDR different from regular talk therapy?

While talk therapy often focuses on understanding and discussing experiences, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — such as guided eye movements or taps — to help the brain process stored memories directly. You don't need to retell every detail for it to be effective.

Is EMDR appropriate for teens?

Yes. EMDR can be adapted for adolescents in a developmentally sensitive way. Sessions are paced carefully, and there is space to check in, ask questions, and take breaks as needed.

Do I have to talk about everything that happened?

No. One of the strengths of EMDR is that you can process difficult experiences without giving a detailed account of the event. You remain in control of what you share and how much.

How long does EMDR take?

It varies. Some people notice relief after a few sessions; others benefit from a longer course of preparation and processing. We will discuss a plan that fits your goals and comfort level.
